The best garlic bread
Ingredients
- 1 crusty loaf preferably sourdough or Vienna
- 3/4 Cup shredded Mozzarella cheese or other melting cheese
Garlic Butter:
- 3.5 Oz unsalted butter softened
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 3/8 Tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped
- 1 Tsp dried oregano optional
- 1/2 Tsp dried basil optional
- 1/4 Tsp red pepper flakes optional
- Splash of lemon juice optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Then, mix in minced garlic, salt, fresh parsley, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, and a splash of lemon juice to make the garlic butter.
- Cut the loaf of bread diagonally into 1-inch diamonds, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- Use your fingers or a knife to pry open each diamond-shaped cut and drizzle in a teaspoon of the flavored garlic butter. Stuff a pinch of shredded cheese into each cut as well. Don’t worry about being too neat; it’s okay if some butter drizzles over the crust.
- Wrap the loaf with foil and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese has mostly melted.
- Unwrap the loaf and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes to make the bread nice and crusty.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
2. The denser the bread, the better the pieces will hold together when pulled off.
